Review for the J’s Resort, Jao Lao Beach, Chontaburi. (The worst resort in Thailand!) The first thing I can say about the J’s Resort in Chontaburi is that it is not in Chontaburi. We arrived in the town to see a street sign informing us that the Jao Lao beach was in fact situated some thirty-eight kilometres from the town centre; hardly convenient for the shops and food markets! We had booked a three day stay but within one hour of arriving at the resort we asked for a refund but were told this was not possible! They advertise FREE Wi-Fi in every room, but were told that this would cost us 200 baht per day! (Also the owner was on holiday and the lady put in charge of the resort had no idea of how to turn on the internet anyway!) They advertise satellite/cable TV in every room but our TV only boasted five channels, all of which were in the Thai language; this was particularly bad for me as the world cup was being played and I could not see the games! Breakfast consists of two tiny cocktail sausages, half a slice of ham, one fried egg, one slice of tomato, and a huge pile of salad! Coffee but no orange juice, and toast with no jam! I asked if they had any tomato ketchup or HP Sauce and received a smile! I went to the shop (fifteen kilometres away in the next town) and bought my own to take with me every morning! In fact the cook asked us to show her how to cook the breakfast the next day! If you like wildlife this is the place to come! Within one hour of our arrival I had killed five cockroaches in the room and swept up at least ten more dead ones! The bathroom was infested by a huge colony of ants and the more I killed the more they regrouped! I didn’t know where they were coming from and gave up looking in the end! In the night we had three dogs living outside our door and they barked and howled all night, depriving us of any sleep! In the photos the beach looks very beautiful, but in reality it is almost impossible to walk on as it is basically mud covered by baby crabs. The smell is very bad also, and the sea is unreachable as you would sink in the mud and die before feeling the warm water between your toes! Also talking of photos, the picture of the resort on the website is not a photo, it is in fact an artist’s impression, and in reality the place looks very different indeed! To sum up, this resort is situated in the middle of nowhere, with not a bar or restaurant in sight. This is a resort to be avoided at all costs, unless you are suicidal and wish to die of boredom!
