What a Waste

We booked the Alis Hotel through Hotel Thailand.com, having found accommodation in the Krabi area more or less fully booked over the Xmas period. Having read the hotel reveiews on Trip Advisor, we had mixed feelings about our reservation, and felt the rates quoted for the room were high. Upon arrival ( about 10.30 pm) we were pleasantly surprised with the hotel location and very pleased with our room which was a good size, had good bathroom facilities plus a large terrace with open air bathtub. The only immediate deficiency was the absence of a lift and staff to help with bags which if your room is on the 3rd floor, means quite a struggle. So far so good. The trouble with the Alis hotel is that the management dont seem to be interested in running the place. Daylight revealed the whole place to be rather run down and a bit grubby. Breakfast was very poor with instant coffee ( lukewarm), a very poor selection of cereals and breakfast items and no one clearing tables. If you arrived after the first rush, you had to clear a space and set your own table. The staff mainly seemed to be standing around doing nothing. Complaints are generally met with an insincere smile and then nothing else. Theres a good pool, - the water looks rather suspect and no-one seems to be checking it . A nice pool bar- closed most of the time. An amazing spa facility- jacuzzi, massage rooms etc with a beautiful terrace and the best views in the hotel- but no-one in there and very little effort to market the services available. Substantial income is being foregone by leaving these facilities unused. Hence the title of this review- the Alis has got great potential- but the management of the place is uninterested. Surely whoever owns the place wants a better return on their investment? Would we return? NO, because we come to Thailand for the (usual) excellent friendly service, above average accommodation and value for money. The Alis fails on all these counts.
